The victorious Bengal team reached home on Monday afternoon and were welcomed by fans at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. Fans jumped in unbridled joy the moment they got a glimpse of their heroes and gave a superb reception to the players who were returning from a long journey from Goa as they screamed, danced and cheered for their team at the airport itself. The footballers and coach Mridul Banerjee lapped up all the love and adulation prompting them to express their thanks.
Bengal won their 32nd overall Santosh Trophy title on Sunday after beating hosts Goa 1-0 in the final played at GMC Athletics Stadium in Bambolim, what was their first win in the tournament since 2011.
In an end-to-end battle either side could not break the deadlock as the game ended goalless at the end of normal time and Manvir Singh scored the decisive goal in the 119th minute to seal victory for Bengal. Bengal’s Moirangthem Basanta Singh was adjudged the Best Striker of the competition while Provat Lakra was awarded the Best Defender.
