CAVELOSSIM: Carmona SC thrashed nine-man Margao SC 6-1 in the opening match of the Goa Football Association (GFA), Third Division League, played at Cavelossim ground, on Saturday.

Margao SC started with nine players however were a better side in the initial moments of the match. Carmona SC, with the full squad had the strength and the pace and soon managed to dominate over the rivals.

Carmona outfit were soon awarded a free kick wherein playmaker Alex Rodrigues sent in a beautiful ball to Neil D’cruz but to the latter’s dismay his header hit the crossbar.

Carmona soon managed to score through Stanford Fernandes in the 15th minute.

The yellow outfit earned a free kick after Alex was tackled just outside the box. The free kick taken by Alex was swept home by Stanford to give his side the early lead.

Carmona soon doubled the lead through Pramod Salimat who dribbled his way past a couple and scored through a beautiful placement.

Margao SC’s Nelson Vaz was the playmaker and had two good chances but was denied by the Carmona goalkeeper.

However, the dominant Carmona side scored another goal through Alex Rodrigues who smashed a left footer late in the first-half as they went into half-time leading 3-0.

Post resumption, Neil D’Cruz scored the fourth before Anthony Braganza and Pramod made it 6-1.

Margao SC managed to pull one goal back in the dying minutes as Nelson Vaz scored a deserved goal to make the final score 6-1.

Elsewhere, Sao Jose de Areal defeated Chandor Club 5-2 in a match played at Padribhatt ground, Sao Jose de Areal.

Chandor opened the scoring through Leno D’Sa in the tenth minute before Areal equalised through Araison Oliveira with a powerful ground shot. The home side soon doubled the lead through Liston Costa’s curler in the 40th minute.

After the breather, Stevon Simoes netted the third for Sao Jose de Areal while David Colaco scored the fourth to give the home side a comfortable 4-1 lead in the 60th minute.

Chandor managed to pull another goal through Standly Hadagal before Levinho Valadres drove the final nail into the coffin for Sao Jose de Areal in the 80th minute.
