KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan coach for 2017/18 Calcutta Premier Division – A, Sankarlal Chakraborty is determined for a positive start to his team’s campaign, when the Mariners kicks-off it’s campaign on Monday against Southern Samity at Mohun Bagan Ground.
Chakraborty, who is originally team’s assistant coach, will be leading Mohun Bagan’s campaign in Kolkata’s top football competition for a second-straight season, and the former midfielder insisted there are no nerves in the team ahead of their opening tie and all the players are confident.
“The first match of the season is always important and tough for any team. The spirit is high in our camp and will approach the game with all the seriousness it deserves,” Chakraborty said ahead of the clash.
“Everybody is excited and we are hoping to carry pre-season form in the main tournament. Our games in pre-season were against some quality oppositions and we are happy to have won all of those games. Now we are ready for the real test.” he added.
The Mariners won 5-0, 2-1 and 6-0 against Coal India, George Telegraph and Calcutta Customs respectively in the pre-season games.
Speaking about the opponents Chakraborty said: “We expect them to come out strong, more on the defense and less attack but we know what we need to do to make sure we win.”
Mohun Bagan’s campaign in the Calcutta Premier Division – A will depend heavily on how Liberian forward Ansumana Kromah performs, and addressing the media the 24-year-old sound pretty much confident.
“The feeling is good and we are very prepared. We have the confidence and belief, and we are looking forward to the game,” Kromah said.
“We are trying to stay focused ahead of the game. The positive thing about the team is the talk about fighting hard till the last minute to secure a win and make our fans happy.” he concluded.
On the team team news front, there are no injury concerns for the Mariners and are expected to field a full strength squad with all three foreigners.
