KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan square off with Rainbow Athletic Club on Wednesday aiming for a favourable result to strengthen and further their hopes as contenders to the Calcutta Football League title.
Currently placed second with 15 points, Mohun Bagan are separated from the leaders East Bengal only by goal difference and a win at Mohun Bagan Ground will take them to the summit of the table.
Speaking on the eve of the game, Mohun Bagan coach Sankarlal Chakraborty said, “It is not going to be an easy game. Rainbow AC is a hardworking team. Nonetheless, we are well prepared and will approach every game with a positive mind set. We can’t be complacent and need to give our all.”
“We are at the halfway point in the league and I feel that we can play much better football. We don’t want our players to be relaxed and our aim is to keep improving with every single game. We are focused on the task at hand and want to give our best. We have been taking it one game at a time and will continue to do so,” he added.
Better news for the Mariners is they head into the match with no injury worries, however they will be without Nigerian defender Eze Kingsley, who is suspended following a yellow card in their previous fixture against Tollygunge Agragami last Sunday, which was his second of the competition.
Mohun Bagan are eager to make most Cof their home advantage against a tricky Rainbow AC side who come into the game on the back of mixed results and only one place above relegation zone with 4 points from 5 games.
However, Rainbow AC showed both character and quality to come from behind and earn a point against Calcutta Customs in the last game but on the morrow, they will be under pressure against the attacking duo of Bayi Kamo Stephane and Ansumana Kromah.
The pair has scored 10 out of Mohun Bagan’s 15 goals goals in the competition and Coach Sankarlal will depend heavily on them to deliver the goods.
