NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has set aside the election of Praful Patel as the All India Fotball Federation President on Tuesday. His election was set aside because it was found that the entire process was not in accordance with the National Sports Code.
As per the Public Interest Litigation filed by sports activist Rahul Mehra, the judgement was passed by a bench comprising Justice S. Ravindra Bhat and Justice Najmi Waziri.
The Court has also called for a fresh election of the office bearers of the AIFF within five months. For the interim, former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi has been appointed as the administrator of AIFF by the Court.
Back in December, Patel was unanimously elected as president of AIFF in the Annual General Meeting. He was elected for a third time after being elected in 2012 as well.
The AIFF was recently applauded for successful hosting of the FIFA U-17 World Cup by FIFA. The tournament witnessed record attendance and was organised without any hiccups.
