KOLKATA: Kolkata giants East Bengal are in talks with Zambian midfielder Kondwani Mtonga for the forthcoming I-League.
The Red and Golds have already secured the signings of Syrian midfilder Mahmoud Al Amna, alongside Trinidadian forward Willis Plaza and defender Carlyle Mitchell.
Mtonga, 33, is a versatile player as he can play either as a central defender or as a defensive midfielder and has played for Zambia-based Zamtel Ndola in 2007.
He has had a successful long term club career with Zesco United, one of the most successful clubs in Zambia Super League, form 2008 to 2014, before moving to India with Indian Super League side NorthEast United.
The Zambian appeared in every game for the John Abraham-owned side in the first season of ISL and scored a couple of goals. Mtonga has represented his country 37 times since 2009 and was a part of the Africa Cup of Nations squad in 2015.
