Kolkata, August 19, 2015: Do Dong-hyun proved his worth once again as East Bengal won their match almost dramatically against the adequate Army XI 3-2 in an Calcutta Football League Premier Division – A clash at East Bengal/Aryan Ground on Wednesday afternoon.
Coach Biswajit Bhattacharjee made only one change in playing eleven from East Bengal’s previous game against BNR, which has been their biggest win so far. Midfielder Mehtab Hossain made it to the starting line-up as Harmanjot Khabra had to sit back. Despite the change, the Red and Gold Brigade managed to get the win to reach the top of the table.
East Bengal played a dominating game from the very beginning, but lost the plot midway through and some frustrated chants of “Bring back Morgan” could be heared from the stands.
Although the Red and Gold Brigade had the possession and the attack index in favour, but Army XI still managed to score a goal through Lallianmawia within 16 minutes into the game. After the first goal, Army started to take back the dominance as East Bengal started to lose their way and started making some inconsiderable mistakes in both their defence and attack as they missed more than three chances to score only in the first half. Army XI stretched their lead to 2-0 through Jain P., who easily converted teammate, Santu Subba’s pass from the left into a goal by a header. East Bengal could not find their breakthrough in the first half.
In the second half, East Bengal started the game dominating both attack and possession again and at that moment, one the crucial move for the Red and Gold was substituting Prohlad Roy for Shylo Malswamtlunga. He proved to be a very important addition to the team.
All of it paid off as East Bengal saw their first goal through Do Dong, assisted by Mohammed Raffique from the left side in the 58th minute.
After their first goal, everything started to fall into position for the Red and Gold Brigade and equalised when Cavin Lobo saw his shot saved by keeper but Do Dong equalised from the rebound in 70th minute. Thereafter, East Bengal took complete control over the proccedings and secured crucial 3 points when Soumik Dey scored the winning goal from Malswamtlunga’s paas in 77th minute of the game.
“I am very happy about thing, that my team won the match. It was one of the most thriling games I ever played in my career. I always try to give my best for the team and if we continue play like this I hope our team will become champion in the league”. Do Dong said to the media after the match.
Throughout the match, the Army XI castodian Arunava Das shone but and after this dramatic win it was only obvious that the Korean forward Do Dong-hyun was named the Man of the Match.
