GOA: The Goa Football Association and a Germany-based Discover Football, which promotes women empowerment through football, have come to an understanding to promote the broad objective of Discover Football, who use football to create special encounters between women who would otherwise never have met.
At a meeting of the GFA Women’s Sub Committee, which was presided over by the President, Elvis Gomes, the clauses in the draft MOU were discussed and agreed upon.
It may be recalled that Tibetian Women Football had last year visited the state under the aegis of Discover Football and played two matches in Goa.
The GFA and Discover Football have taken it further to organize an All India Invitational Tournament for women comprising of eight teams, which will be held at Duler from 5th to 13th August 2017.
Welcoming Johanna Small and Cassie Childers from Discover Football, Gomes said that the partnership would go a long way in filling the missing gap in the development and promotion of football by making it inclusive for women also.
He further said that this tournament would be used as a precursor to the proposed league for women, which shall be held from the month of October in the state.
Apart from tournament, the event will also accompanied by a girls’ football camp, an international coaching program and a workshop program by feminist approach to technology.
