Vasco: In an intensely played out 5th round fixture of the I-League 2015-16 between Salgaocar FC and Aizawl FC, the visitors were able to snatch a point in the dying minutes of the game here on Sunday.

A 44th minute strike from Darryl Duffy and an injury time penalty converted by R Malsawmtluanga crashed the hopes of a victory for the Greens at the Tilak Maidan Stadium, Vasco.

The home side’s new coach Sanosh Kashyap will be happy as he brought the 1st point for the team on his debut, in their 5 games for the season. At the off-set of the 1st half the Highlanders had the Greens in frenzy when Lalramchullova made a dangerous attack at the goal. In the 19th minute Jackichand Singh came dangerously close to hand the Greens with a lead. This happened as a result of his combination with Duffy to enter the Aizawl box where it would be only the former & Soram Anganba goalkeeper for the visitors but this was squandered away as the shot was straight to the keeper’s safe hands.

Aizawl FC had their share of close shaves one in particular in the 42nd minute of the game Lalrinpuia let the ball fly from a distance which misses the target by a few inches as everyone just stopped and looked on.

The deadlock was finally broken when Duffy made no mistake off a long pass made to him by Gurjinder Singh and put it past Soram.

This strike separated the 2 sides at the stroke of half-time with Salgoacar FC leading 1-0.

The Highlanders kicked into gear as soon as the second half began. The visitors came with many chances 1 especially came close when Yuta Kinokawi attempted a header off a ball sent from the right flank by Lalbiakhlua only to find the Salgaocar custodian & skipper there.

The Greens were denied some and squandered many chances which they would later realise was a crucial mistake. In the dying minutes just before the injury time was announced Reagan in attempt to clear the ball brought down  Alfred Jaryan on the edge of the box which earned Aizawl FC a penalty. Malsawmtulanga steped up and completely fools Karanjit as he dives left & the ball is in the bottom right corner of the goal.

The exciting game was brought to an end, a goal each with the Greens being held earning their 1st point in the Hero I-League.
