KALYANI: Mohammedan Sporting Club produced yet another impressive performance to beat newly promoted Calcutta Premier Division side Pathachakra Club 1-0 in a pre-season game on Sunday (16 July, 2017).
The former India striker Manandeep Singh continued from where he left off against Rainbow Athletic Club 48 hours ago and scored the winner in the 26th minute at Kalyani Municipal Sports Complex.
Mohammedan SC dominated first-half ball possession, but did not do much to threaten the opposition goal, while Pathachakra, who were pressed back for the majority of the game, did well to absorb the pressure and looked dangerous on the few times they attacked.
The first-half was characterized by a lack of goal scoring opportunities from both sides. In the infant stages of the game, Mohammedan SC had shown promise with some impressive passes, but when they resorted to long balls, Pathachakra dealt with them with confidence.
However, the Biswajit Bhattacharya-coached side were rewarded for their persistent efforts as Manandeep dribbled into the area from the left, outwitted two Pathachakra defenders who were anticipating a cross from his right, only to fire home with his left to give Mohammedan SC the lead.
Having taken the lead, Mohammedan SC got a much needed confidence boost and they increased their pressure upfront, but were guilty of non-conversion despite having the lion’s share of possession as the first-half ended 1-0.
Mohammedan SC resumed strongly and were on the ascendancy attacking the Pathachakra goal with purpose and dominated proceedings at the middle. Manandeep and Dipendu Dowary linked up well keeping the Pathachakra backline on their toes.
Having enjoyed a strong start to the second-half, the Black Panthers continued to dominate proceedings, but once again it was lack of finishing that prevented a bigger scoreline as the game ended 1-0 in Mohammedan SC’s favour.
