Barasat, August 21, 2015: Katsumi Yusa scored a brace and assisted one as Mohun Bagan cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over BNR Recreation Club in an Calcutta Football League Premier Division – A encounter played at Barasat Stadium on Friday.
Having collected 8 points from 4 matches Mohun Bagan climbed to third position with today’s win. While BNR remained on one point from six match.
Mohun Bagan made a bright start to the proccedings with Dudu Omagbemi paired Azaharuddin Mallick upfront but right from the beginning BNR defended deep to keep the Mariners at bay in the first-half.
Mohun Bagan had their first chance only 4 minutes into the match but Dudu only managed to find the roof of the net with a right footed volley. Mohun Bagan had another chance in the 14th minute when Pankaj Moula made a solo run to deliver a delightful pass to Dudu at the edge of the box but once again the Nigerian failed to find the target with his right foot.
Thereafter, Mohun Bagan placed some more attacks through Pankaj Moula and Yusa but the BNR defence done well in thawrting them.
Thus the referee blown the half time whistle with no goals at either end of the pitch.
Second half started in almost identical fashion to the first, with Dudu and Yusa constructed a flury of attacks but eventually crumbled in front of a solid BNR defence, which saw Mohun Bagan Sanjoy Sen made two substitutions in quick succession to brought Kean Lewis and Asif Kottayil in for Ram Malik and Lalkamal Bhowmick respectively, the move instantly increased Bagan’s pressure on BNR defence as the Mariners found the breakthrough in 69th minute when Yusa guided the ball into the net from a left sided corner taken by Lewis. Seven minutes later Mohun Bagan doubled the lead through Dudu who headed home from Yusa’s right sided low centre, but the best goal of the match came in the 87th minute when Yusa curled in a freekick from edge of the box, the free-kick was awarded to Bagan followed by a foul on Pankaj by Mithun Naha.
Yusa, who led single handedly led his team a emphatic win has be declared man of the match.
Meanwhile in another match SAI East Zone beat Tollygunge Agragami 2-1 at East Bengal/Aryan Ground.
Playing their first match under new coach Subhash Bhowmick Tollygunge took the lead first through Ashim Biswas but a goal each from Subhankar Ghosh and Deep Chandra Ekka ensured full three points for SAI. However, Tollygunge missed a penalty in the dying moments when Dipendu Biswas’ attempted spot-kick was save SAI East Zone goalkeeper Ranjit Jana, who named man of the match.
