Colombo: Mohun Bagan secured a hard fought 2-1 win over Sri Lanka Premier League champions Colombo FC at the Race Course International Stadium on Tuesday, to hand themselves a valuable advantage going into next week’s second leg of a tightly contested AFC Cup Preliminary Stage encounter.

In what was to prove an entertaining first half, Mohun Bagan’s Kean Lewis opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a fine header, but the Lankan lions roared back courtesy of Afeez Olofin’s equalising goal in the 30th minute of the game.

The Kolkata-based club were to bag a winner in the second half however, Sehnaj Singh finding the net in the 70th minute to secure a vital one-goal advantage for the visitors.

Colombo FC will nevertheless still consider themselves to be in contention for a spot in the AFC Cup Group Stage ahead of the return fixture in Kolkata on February 7, 2017.
