MIZORAM: I-Day Football champions Chhinga Veng FC came out on top in the battle at the top table against current champions Chanmari FC. Striker Lalkhawpuimawia netted the solitary goal in a 1-0 win.
Both teams, still undefeated in the league, were looking to put some margin at the top of the league with a victory against each other.
That determination ensured there was action right from the start as Vanlalbiaa shone from the first minute for Chanmari FC and Jacob missed a good chance.
Former Chanmari FC striker Malsawmfela, now with Chhinga Veng FC also posed a threat for his former team but could not test goalkeeper Muanawma. Dinliana and Laldampuia also came close for Chhinga Veng FC.
The second half provided much of the same back and forth action with Chanmari FC just edging out their opponents in possession.
But that was soon to change when substitute Lalkhawpuimawia, minutes after coming on, latched on to a brilliant ball from Malsawmfela and just squeezed it past Muanawma to give Chhinga Veng FC the lead.
Chanmari FC were close to finding an equaliser late on with chances from Alex Whitemore and Vanlalbiaa but CVFC were able to take home three points.
Another former Chanmari FC midfielder Lalrinchhana was named man of the match.
