PANJIM: Salgaocar Football Club registered a 2-1 win over Dempo Sports Club in the Goa Football Association’s U-20 TACA Goa League One match, held at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.
Salgoacar scored through Devendra Murgaokar brace while Boris De Melo netted for for Dempo.
Coming into the game, Salgaocar FC didn’t allow their opponents to settle into the game as they dictated terms with quick passing and possession play and scored the first goal in the sixth minute through Devendra Murgaokar.
Down by a goal, Dempo SC regrouped and went all out in search of an equalising goal and managed to level terms in the 14th minute through Boris de Melo. Salgaocar defender Salesh Haldankar brought down Dempo’s Aaren in the box, and the referee made no hesitation in pointing towards the spot. Boris stepped over and converted in style to level terms.
At the half hour mark, Dempo almost took the lead when Vineet Bugde found Altroy Rodrigues in the rival half, but the latter’s shot missed the nets by inches.
The Golden Eagles had the chance to take the lead just before the break, but once again their poor finishing denied them as Boris saw his effort easily collected by the keeper.
Crossing ends, both teams played an attacking brand of football which say Dempo coming close to scoring through Vineet and Boris while at the other end, Andrus almost saw his shot enter the nets to give Salgaocar all three points, but they just couldn’t get the match-winner.
Finally in the final quarter of the game, Devendra netted the match-winner for Salgaocar FC to give his side full points.
