PANJIM: A 12-member Goa Football Association (GFA) delegation led by Schubert Furtado (Vice-President, South) met the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, on Saturday with regards to the press release stating that GFA boycotted the fast approaching U-17 World Cup to be jointly held in Goa in October.
Furtado appraised the Chief Minister that the State Association has never stated that it will boycott the International event. In fact, the State Association has time and again asked the concerned authorities about their role in the World Cup to which no positive answer has still been received. The Chief Minister assured that he would look into the matter in a couple of days since it is a long weekend.
“We have not boycotted the International event and are ever willing to be associated with the historical event in the country. I am sure that the Chief Minister will intervene and give the State Association its due recognition,” Schubert stated.
The GFA members present were Mr. Welvin Menzes (Hon. Gen. Secretary), Mr. Angelo Albuquerque, Mr. Sanjiv Nagevkar, Mr. Jaju Fernandes, Mr. John D’Silva, Mr. Bishut Themudo, Mr. Anthony Pango, Mr. Anthony Leo Fernandes, Mr. Arnaldo Costa, Mr. Patrick D’Souza and Mr. Raju Banavlikar.
